During the last week of July, a delegation of Leipzig’s environmental cluster for energy and environmental engineering has been visiting his partner cluster in Cluj-Napoca, the heart of north-west Romania. The main focus of the agenda was on talks with regional photovoltaic-players as well as a visit at the leading institute for research and development of isotopic and molecular technologies (ITIM) and the development of a joint EU-application.

Participants gained a detailed insight into the impressive analysis technology of the ITIM: Several million Euros have been invested into the purchase and the operation of high-definition field electron microscopes which allow a three-dimensional visualisation at an atomic scale. Research is also done in the field of photovoltaic technology.

The delegational travel was part of the TREC project which is running until the end of August. At the moment there are plans to apply for a funding programme in which incubators in the field of the Green Economy shall be established with the network members.
