Within the scope of the TREC project, a delegation of Leipzig’s environmental cluster for energy and environmental engineering has been visiting network members in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and in Debrecen, Hungary. During the travel, participants assessed questions of the recycling of nutrients and sewage sludge which is an important matter for research and development for many countries also in South Eastern Europe.

TREC network members meet in Cluj-Napoca

Solar power and modern microscopy in the centre of attention

During the last week of July, a delegation of Leipzig’s environmental cluster for energy and environmental engineering has been visiting his partner cluster in Cluj-Napoca, the heart of north-west Romania. The main focus of the agenda was on talks with regional photovoltaic-players as well as a visit at the leading institute for research and development of isotopic and molecular technologies (ITIM) and the development of a joint EU-application.

With hydrothermal processes (HTP), water-rich, biogenic residues can be converted into liquid, solid or gaseous carbon carriers. The further refined products have a wide application potential. For a bio-based economy, hydrothermal processes thus represent a key technology. At the third Leipzig HTP-Forum, on the 12th/13th of September 2017, the current state of knowledge in this area is going to be intensified and the mutual exchange of experience between research and industry will be promoted. On the 12th and 13th September the event 'HTP-Fachforum – Technologies for value creation through use of raw materials and as an energy source' takes place at the event location Alte-Essigmanufactur in Leipzig. The focus of the forum lies on the entire range of hydrothermal processes for the production of solid, liquid and gaseous energy- and carbon carriers, the production of basic and fine chemicals, furthermore political framework conditions, measurement and control technology as well as the economic and ecological valuation of hydrothermal processes.

Great potential for bioeconomy in the Republic of Moldova

Delegation from Leipzig developed ideas for cooperation in the field of a bio-based economy

At the beginning of June, the Business Centre of Cahul received representatives of the Leipzig based Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW, the DBFZ (German Biomass Research Centre) and Heinz Skiba, independent adviser in the project "Stadt-Parthe-Land", in order to develop cooperation approaches in the field of a bio-based economy. The Cahul region in the southern part of the Republic of Moldova has a strong agrarian economy, viticulture as well as a well developed food industry. The Business Centre of Cahul connects enterprises, service companies, research insitutions and the regional administration in a business cluster.
